Pamphlet Discussion
The pamphlet was shared among parents in a gated community in Miami. I went through the pamphlet with a thirty five year old Swedish mother of two and explained the health effects of indoor air pollution. She was a perfect student as her infant was about nine months old, at the crucial stage of growth and development. The learning was smooth as there was little explanation required on the concept. The teaching was properly understood albeit she argued that only infants from poor backgrounds would develop asthma brought about by allergens from roaches. As a resident of an affluent gated community, she saw no need to be concerned with certain precautions, as they would not affect people of her economic status. The mother understood the entire concept but seemed offended that research was unbiased when it came to issues such as allergens brought about by unhygienic conditions. I found the learning experience quite informative. However, there needs to be more sensitization and education of members of the community on the effects of the environment on our health, not only the infants.
