Cost, Access and Quality for Living Well Urgent Care and Out Patient Surgery Center Atlanta, GA

The assignment is a reflection of completing the course. It provides further insight into the process of developing a proposal for the for Living Well Urgent Care and Out Patient Surgery Center as well as gives information about the skills I have gained from taking the program. The second part of the assignment offers explains the quality measures that would help the firm to understand whether it is on the right path in service provision as well as explains the methods used to measure any progress. The assignment reiterates the need to consider critical factors while developing the health facility to achieve impressive outcomes.

Part I

Planning for the Proposed Facility

The facility will structured in such a way that all key departments of a health facility are available. Some of the departments include rehabilitation, dietary, surgical, outpatient, pharmacy, and paramedical departments, as well as operation theatre, non-professional services, and radiology departments. All these departments together with others will follow guidelines that help to achieve the targeted goals as well as work towards achieving a common goal.

In addition to including all the necessary departments, the facility will rely on effective leadership structure that steers the groups towards the right path. The board will serve as the primary governing body in charge of making high-profile decisions about the firm. The board of directors for the facility will be selected from a team of healthcare experts and comprises of experts in their different fields. The governing team will also comprise of executives who are in charge for managing the health facility, overseeing business plan and making financial decisions. For example, the chief financial officer will tend to the financial needs of the hospital and the chief executive officer will be in charge of decision-making and outlining business strategy. Also part of the team are department administrators who manage everyday operations of particular departments within the firm as well as report to the firm’s executives. Non-medical divisions such as catering will also have department administrators. Also part of the team are patient care managers and service providers. Supervision physicians and nurse managers for part of the patient care management team whereas service providers; therapists, nurses, physicians, and doctors perform essential services. Service providers offer patient care, take care of records, and ensure the facility has the capacity to offer care to patients effectively.

Reflection on what is Accomplished

Completing the course has equipped me with valuable information and skills that I can use to enhance how I serve as a health practitioner. An aspect that I consider to be essential and which I believe will impact on my practice is the leadership skills I have gained that would enhance how I serve as a healthcare manager. I am not able to deploy the responsibilities of healthcare manager without any complications. For instance, I am now able to streamline business operations so that they happen as effectively as possible. I have also gained ideas and skills that would allow me to enhance patient care at a time that the need to offer quality care is becoming increasingly essential. Besides, completing the course has equipped me with the ability to develop an effective budget that that ensures the group handles all its financial obligations effectively. In addition to the highlighted skills, I now understand the importance of offering training to members of staff as well as know effective staffing approaches that are likely to ensure the group recruits competent and qualified personnel in the various operational areas. I am also confident that the skills I have developed on how to develop proper organizational policies and the ability to plan and organize that I have developed over the duration will help me to serve as a competent healthcare manager. More fundamentally, completing the course has equipped me with the ability to regulate organizational activities and to ensure that everything happens in accordance with the plan. I look forward to implementing all the skills I have gained to serve as a responsible and qualified healthcare manager.

Skills I will continue to Develop

I plan to develop certain skills as I advance in my career in healthcare management. I look forward to improve how I build effective teams because team work is critical for any organization to excel. I also hope to improve my skills on quality care provision now that more facilities and practitioners are increasingly focusing on this area. Besides, my desire is to develop my skills on how to foster organizational change as well as to improve patient well-being and safety. Motamedzadeh et al. (2017) encourage health practitioners to pay considerable attention to patient safety arguing that the practice aims to minimize and prevent errors, risks, and harm that are likely to happen to patients during delivery of health care. Moreover, I aspire to gain better skills that would help me lead the facility and to control it in the most effective manner. I know that every skill that I mention here is important that is why I will work hard to excel in every aspect.

Research on Quality

Most initiatives in the healthcare sector are dedicated to enhancing the client’s well-being over overall quality of life. The fast rate at which healthcare is transforming in the U.S. compels health providers restructure how they offer their services. The chief goal in many instance is to enhance patient outcomes, elevate efficiency, and achieve quality care. Technological growth and introduction of many features that facilitate health services makes it easy to offer quality services. Health practitioners are also taking measures to elevate their awareness on quality care (Visnjic et al., 2012). The need to achieve quality care is a fundamental objective for Living Well Urgent Care and Outpatient Surgery Center that will rely on reputable models for achieving quality provision. An example of a reliable model that may guide the facility and any other to achieve quality care is PSDA (plan-do-study-act) model that requires implementers to follow four primary steps; planning, doing, studying, and acting (Endshaw, 2020). The planning phase is where a practitioner formulates a research question then proceeds to doing or performing the test with the change one wants to achieve (Endshaw, 2020). The researcher should monitor the outcomes properly and understand what worked well and what did not. The study phase is where a team analyzes the outcomes to consider what works best for the team (Endshaw, 2020). The final step is to act by implementing the desired change. Hence, each facility should prioritize quality care as a fundamental aspect of their operations.

Part II

Quality Measures

The facility will rely on certain quality of measures to determine whether the facility is in the right path in the way it serves. A critical factor to consider in this case is patient satisfaction that Visnjic et al. (2012) refer to the level to which patients are contented with their healthcare, both within and outside the health facility (Visnjic et al., 2012). Assessing patient satisfaction is important because this offers caregivers insights into various elements of the care process, encompassing the appropriateness the care process and their measure of empathy (Visnjic et al., 2012). The team will also consider the rate of post-operative infections that Muacevic and Adler (2019) refer to as the infections that occur with the first few weeks of operation. Fewer rates of infection would mean successful operations. The facility should embrace suitable ways for measuring the achievement of these measures.

Conducting an electronic patient satisfaction survey and using an electronic health record (HER) present suitable chances for gathering and analyzing date for the identified measures. The electronic survey makes it possible to understand the patient’s views regarding the intervention process and whether they gain from it. The survey also makes it possible to assess the level of patient satisfaction. Another suitable approach to collect and analyze the data is to use EHR that makes it possible to gather and store information that patients give about the healthcare process (Heuvel et al., 2013). Each of these techniques are effective but interveners can choose to use both approaches for better results.

Conclusion

The report has two parts; Part I and Part II. Part I is a reflection of completing the course. It offers a plan that would guide how the health facility operates as well as gives a reflection of the leadership skills gained from the program. Part I also describes the need to focus on quality care when running a health facility. Part II emphasizes on the need to rely on certain measures of quality to know whether the group is on the right path in the way it serves its patients.
