Introduction
Policing in the United States of America has witnessed evolving and radical changes in the criminal justice department since the 1970s to the present day. Technology has had a tremendous effect in the manner of operations and efficiencies of the system towards maintaining law and order. The task of policing requires controlling of crime, order maintenance, provision off intricate services, which include response to emergency and traffic regulation. On the other hand, criminals have utilized technology and evolution of strategies to increase their activities. Policing, with the aid of technology has made significant gains in results but face the evolution of crime as time and technology changes.
Discussion
In the early years, crimes committed required simplistic devices or tools for execution. Policing too, required similar approach to curb escalation and arrests of the offenders. Technology realization in the 20th and subsequent centuries introduced new mediums of transformations. The use of cell phones, computers, smart phones and sophisticated gadgets have increased the crime rates. The avenues for conducting crime have multiplied with crimes such as fraud, identity theft and computer crimes on the rise. This raised the need for improved policing mechanisms through embracing of technology with inclusion of fingerprinting databases, records management, crime mapping inventory and calculation of solvability factors.
Conclusion
Through integration of shifting technology and improved policing techniques, major improvements have been achieved in the criminal justice department. However, with availability of technology, crime has taken over new dimensions as sophistication is on the increase. This calls for a dynamic approach in stepping up efforts to curb the crime incidents. In the future, stringent measures of monitoring and analysis of all people will help boost the policing efforts. On the other hand, criminals will consequently speed up escape mechanisms but the optimistic aspect of technology use will be of great value in policing.
