Deviance and Social Control
Question 1
I selected the particular norm of talking to myself in public due to the limited audience at the time. In addition, I did not want a large audience in the process.
Question 2
Before breaking the norm, I felt hesitant on carrying it out. I had not done the norm before. Therefore, I was not sure of the reaction from other people.
Question 3
When I talked to myself in public, the reaction was varied. Other people were surprised on the event, others did not mind while others were sympathetic. The reaction was positive since it was expected by the different audience. I felt shy at first before accommodative to the responses.
Question 4
At the beginning of the reaction, I was uncomfortable since I did not know the action that would be taken by any of the public audience.
Question 5
I managed to keep my composure by avoiding the direct contact with any of the audience members while focusing on my own opinion about it.
Question 6
The informal sanction received from the audience on the action was suggestive talks and sneers from some of the lookers while the occasional grunt was evident. The sanctions were appropriate since some of the members had not been used to it while others did not mind any of the proceedings.
Question 7
In regards to thio
theory, it is stated that the traditional forms are better suited to the
deviance, which exists in high degree of society wide value consensus (Bryant,
2009). The opposite maintained through the modern delivers on value consensus
of lower status. Thus, the limited nature of my deviance merited the control
and reaction from a limited subgroup of the society at the time based on
normative prescription as shown by the numbers at the time.
