Drag Racing
Drag racing involved the motor vehicles specifically prepared for the purpose in a competition manner. Usually, they consisted of two racers at a time, where the first to finish or cross the line was the winner. The video’s depiction illustrates the extreme lengths that were used in order to enhance the image of drag racing from historical times. The presentation is antique especially with the use of black and white authentic pictures. It creates the attention needed to understand the nature of the vehicles used in line with the technology at the time. It had been a strange kind of entity for majority of the populations at the time compounded by the design of the vehicles used. Only a select few were interested in pursuit of the races. The use of questions and answers from former participants enables an enhanced reliance with the content of drag racing, while increasing its appeal for first time enthusiasts. The voice-over is significant in aiding the cause within means of understanding the historical developed racing techniques with the vehicles.
The use of the front engine dragster raises implications with either positive or negative denotations. The type of car was purposely built for the competition even though it is currently considered obsolete. In the video, it is shown as s slingshot with increased attention paid towards the technology behind it and its design as compared to fundamental vehicle requirements. In the video, the engine was located in the ca’s frame, which was in front of the driver. There was no suspension used at the time, even to the present ones. They instead used high-speed toque within the engine systems to propel them along, thereby increasing the thrill and attention given to it by the drivers and enthusiasts. The wheelbase was visibly short and the video alludes to the fact especially when placed in lateral discretion for confirmation by the participants.
Due to the unstable condition of the front engine dragster, several incidents of unsafe standards and excursions were experienced. Just as depicted in the video, the speeds reached by the racers at time caused inevitable accidents. As stated, numerous deaths occurred in the process, thereby damaging the reputation of the sport. Some of the accidents were grisly while several slight ones were normal occurrences. However, I feel that they could be avoided especially with the keen redesigning of the shape and extended wheelbase. As shown in the latte stages of the race development, the improvement of traction facilitated better safety standards, to the drivers and marshals. Notable personalities as seen to laud the redesigned models, however the driver was seated in an angled backward position, as if to suggest a differentiated availability of a cockpit. The positioning of the rear two tires helped increase the stability on the overall.
From the inception of the drag race, few enthusiasts were interested with the sport as it was left for the willing. Increased negative reputation w witnessed with the accidents caused and subsequent lives lost. However, I feel that the increased use of better traction techniques and redesigning accentuated the race profile. As shown in the video, the interest grew and influenced the social events it caused all over the country. Soon, the family setups grew in stature and everyone was adept to drag racing. The commercial effect enhanced its base as it wielded the financial muscle. Despite the obvious perils associated with the race and mechanical failures that compound the vehicles, the interest has grown to present day. Measures to include safer technologies and crisis resolutions can even further the sport as witnessed by the fan numbers.
