Family Care Practitioner Essay
I. Introduction
I have been
interested in the family care profession for a long time. This is mainly
because of the valuable service that these experts provide to the society.
Apart from assisting people, I am interested in the profession because of the
massive career alternatives. However, I understand that to achieve success, I
need to invest my time in impressive grades and networking.
II. Interest in becoming a nurse practitioner
From a young age, I was interested in nursing. As a child, I was suffering from different types of ordinary sickness and had to visit the hospital for checkups and emergencies. On those numerous occasions, I became accustomed to the medical premises and particularly the nursing staff that did the rounds every day. Apart from that, I also noted that while doctors were more superior, the nursing staff did almost all the work. I developed a rapport with the nurses who were caring enough to help me deal with the pain and challenges during the trying period. At the same time, they were carrying out their hospital duties. Even after my discharge, we remained close friends. While at the age, I decided to join the nursing profession to assist others with the necessary care and support that I had experienced.
During my time at nursing school, I studied about various diseases, their relevant cures and prevention. At this point, I realized that nursing education as well as management was essential in preventing diseases and that acquiring this information can make a difference across many families. Most of the families are both middle and low class and therefore, cannot access proper nursing education for their children or themselves. Apart from the knowledge, I also had extensive experience with patients having diverse conditions.
III. Affecting patient outcomes
In my community,
there is little emphasis on sanitation or health education. Most of the people
in the projects are either African Americans or Hispanics. These minority
groups occupy the bottom levels of the economic food chain. Therefore, they are
unable to afford medical insurance and other benefits such as regular checkups,
effective drugs and preferential treatment. After completing my studies and
attain the status of a family practitioner, I plan to establish a community
sensitization program that will educate different American communities on a
wide variety of healthcare subjects. The main objective of the program is to
reduce the number of people falling sick to communicable diseases by half. This
will involve making trips to the slums and projects and showing the community
member the best way of maintaining sanitation levels. This may look like a
challenge but I see it as a chance to make a difference. The training from the nurse
practitioner course has equipped me with the necessary skills and experience to
assist families in realizing longer and improved lives. It is the least I can
do to give back to the community.
IV. Conclusion
I had the inspiration to become a nurse even before I had joined elementary school. All my life I was grateful for the support and care by the nurses showed me when I was sick. Therefore, I know that physically and emotionally I am prepared to tackle the challenges presented within the classroom and later within the field. My only driving factor is the need to see a disease-free world. This will take the incessant effort of individuals with a deliberate intention of improving the state of global heath care.
