How Legislating Family Medical Leave Act Might change Policies and Procedures of A Firm
Introduction
The new Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) is a federal law that gives the employee 12 weeks of unpaid family and medical protected leave yearly. The affected employees are given the same position upon their return. The leave is issued under any of the following cases; childbirth, disability due to pregnancy ,care of a domestic partner, child or parent with a serious health condition, employees own serious health among others. The legislation of the new Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) in a company might positively change its policies and procedures.
Discussion
FMLA boosts the company procedures in that the employee is protected not to have their employers interfere with their Act whatsoever. If one is pregnant or sick it is his or her right to go on leave .With FMLA in act no employee is denied his or her right. It reduces favor and corruption in a firm. This strengthens a firm’s rules and regulations. Even though an employee is on leave, he or she is entitled to the reinstatement of all benefits in the records.
There is restoration to the same position upon return to work. According to the Act if the position is taken, the employer must provide a similar position with an equal pay, responsibility a, premiums and benefits .This helps a company retain its best workers. It reduces misunderstandings of which position will be given to one who was on leave. This enhances a smooth environment in the firm .In companies with no FMLA wrangles arise between the employer and employees especially on return from long term leave.
Conclusion
The FMLA has encouraged both men and women to take family related leaves. It has led to growth of effective companies that are well strategize and planned. FMLA has reduced disloyalty since a medical certification is presented to employer to clarify the need for the leave request. It has created a good environment between the employer and the employee.
