Value systems are an significant aspect of the life of an individual and provide a consistent set of ethical principles. They affect the nature and character of choices that people make. From the onset of childhood, a mother instills values to define the character of her child. The first agent of socialization is the family and mothers shape the personality of the child. Mothers offer wise counsel while talking to their children. Parental values become deep rooted from their continuous lessons and exemplary life to define the personality of the adult. The daily decisions and choices made by the individual are affected by the values adopted from the parents.
Religious systems shape the attitudes of an individual. Religion is conservative in nature but provides beliefs that promote social responsibility, obedience to law and good deeds. Christianity promotes the role of love and care in relationships to emulate Jesus. This provides a set of values that guide an individual’s daily course of action. Professional systems such as organizations and institutions also provide a code of conduct for members. The motto of the University promotes a sense of responsibility from the administration to the students. This shapes the attitude of the student towards the determination of educational goals. However, these choices are not forced upon the student because it is a mutual agreement.
The human experience is dependent upon the thoughts and decisions that an individual makes. Intrusive persuasion serves to curtail the concept of individuality and choice. Value systems are not limiting to a particular concept or ideology. However, they are established to act as a mechanism of support towards daily decision-making. Personal convictions are affected by value systems to shape the attitudes of people and their relationships without intrusive persuasion.
