Leadership Capstone Practice
In overview, my leadership practicum is mainly at G. W. U. Hospital. In order for me to have a positive leadership platform, I work together with Ivy Benjenk who is my quality specialist. My personal background largely entails a Masters’ accreditation in Nursing Leadership and Management. In addition to my ongoing degree, I presently work as a registered Nurse. Based on my extensive experience within the medical field, I am aware of the considerable amount of knowledge that I require in order to be a better leader. One of the concerns of this practicum comprises the quality of leadership. Technically, it is impossible to function without leaders. Based on my practicum experience, I learnt that my life quality or that of the employees is largely dependent on the quality of leadership (Bennis, 2009). As such, I found out that I have to master the setting if we are capable of resolving personal issues.
Aside from this particular learning, it is imperative for leaders to be innovative and creative rather than abide by conventional standards. Aside from such effects, my leadership practicum illustrates the importance of change and status quo. As a leader, it is important to focus on the positive effects that can arise from change. Generally, leaders tend to possess qualities such as integrity, passion, curiosity, as well as a directing vision (Bennis, 2009). As such, contrary to premises such as the trait theory, I understood that actual leaders are not conceived. Accordingly, Robert Dockson states that, “The things that matter can’t be taught in a formal classroom setting…” (Bennis, 2009, p. 67). Instead, through experiences such as the ones that I am exposed to regarding my leadership practicum, I finally began to understand on the significant number of external aspects that people undergo especially in intense environments such as the medical workplace.
