Lifecore Reflection#1
I used to be the captain of the soccer team in high school. this was a leadership position and there were many challenges involved. I had to ensure that I get the attention of all the members, and that they listened to me whenever I gave instructions. This position ties to several core dimensions and to leadership. The emotional dimension involves the wellbeing of a person emotionally. This means having the ability to acknowledge, manage, and express one’s feelings. This is in addition to recognizing the challenges, risk, and conflict opportunities necessary for emotional growth. The physical dimension involves a person’s ability to take care of his physical body so that he can live a protective and vigorous life. This involves performing physical activity, eating healthy nutrition, and getting sufficient sleep. Relational well being is concerned with a person’s ability to engage with the surrounding communities. This is achieved through respecting other people, having clear knowledge concerning the foundation of healthy relationships.
I was aware of my emotions and I could control them. I ate the right foods and performed the right exercises, which enhanced my performance. Soccer is an intensive game and it requires the players to be healthy and whole. I was the team captain and this meant interacting with all the team members and having a good relationship with them and with the coach as well. I demonstrated leadership by uniting the team and maintaining discipline. I made sure that every person was aware of the rules and that he followed them. I did not have sufficient skills to be an effective leader. People expected more from me. Although I was good at maintaining order, i lacked in motivation and I did not know the right words to use to inspire the team. More knowledge concerning managing and different leadership styles could have helped me. I would have learnt to use different management styles depending on the situation.
