Multiple Levels of Analysis
Situation Example
In this illustration, the experience under question mainly involves experience on a team project. In an organization, it is imperative to set aside differences and work together common goals and objectives within the respective context. As part of a five-member team, it was important to ensure cohesion among all the members in order to satisfy our assigned tasks. The main issue involved the delegation process especially with the way it posed positive as well as negative implications on the members’ interaction and results. From the experience, it was evident that the respective process imposed an effect on task performance among the members as well as the group as a single unit.
Part 1: Multiple Levels of Analysis
The first step of the assessment comprises the individual level of analysis. From this level, it is evident that personal characteristics assumed a considerable role in the way members of the group performed their assigned tasks. Foremost, the background of each character contributed to the situation. Through delegation, each individual was asked to provide an answer to the questions designated. Due to the nature of the question, members represented different answers that were mostly influenced by their disparate backgrounds. In this respect, their personal qualities influenced the answers or opinions they presented.
Consequently, the group level of analysis indicated the occurrence of conflict between the members due to the disparities evident within their opinions. Cohesion was particularly difficult to maintain at this point as well as productivity since each member exhibited the conviction that his or her idea was right. Thirdly, the organizational level of analysis positioned the group conflict with the notion of cultural diversity. Since the organization was subject to different members from various disparate backgrounds, the conflict within the group was identified and understood considerably. Lastly, the conflict between the members was an illustration of the conflict that takes place on a global stage as an outcome of a different set of beliefs and ideas.
Part 2: Feedback and Analysis
As asserted in the situational illustration, the team is comprised of five members. Based on the task assigned, members were required to provide answers to a series of questions that were delegated to them. Because of these interactions, it was possible to identify different team-related behaviors characterized by the group members. On one hand, members exhibit positive team-based attitude. Since the questions were delegated to all the members irrespective of their backgrounds, it was possible for them to come up with ideas and opinions. More specifically, because of their differing backgrounds, the members of the group provided their own personal opinions. In addition to this, the process of brainstorming among the members enabled them to learn from each other. In addition, time was utilized and saved during the respective process. On the other hand, the delegation process also presented its fair share of negative-related behavior. Because the answers were done by each member rather than an overall supervisor, conflict arose within the group especially due to the level of grades for each member of the group. Accordingly, each member stood alone in respect to his or her grades. With this in mind, the conflict that took place between the team members resulted from the scores that characterized the questions asked during the delegation process. Since members with the highest grades blamed those with lower scores, the aspect of cohesion became particularly difficult to maintain.
