Personality and Leadership
The two most important questions regarding leadership include the distinguishing traits of leaders from other people and the magnitude of the differences. The bases used for the studies in the past were not correlated since different traits were used without concise streamlining. Therefore, leadership appeared distinct from different personalities without the accurate determination of the valued traits. The study did not also take into account the verbal based personalities. As such, the natural abilities of different personalities were not considered as vital in determining leadership qualities. Verbal traits within leaders make up for the effect realized in the people, especially in following the precedence set. It makes for the assumed role within society of a central commanding figure, where the people can respect and follow authority without the necessary questioning. In addition, it translates to psychological analysis of capabilities by the people.
Of the big, five discussed traits in the models openness to experience is presented as ambiguous. It is not easy to understand while it presents a controversial base of discussion. The level of openness cannot be quantified by the individual while the study is not particular to it. The sociopolitical attitudes and creativity are ideal in the same dimension but the experience factor and openness does not. For experience, the use of the trait in job related fields is efficient as opposed to leadership. The use of big five leadership traits is not sufficient to a government-like or institution-based determination. It can be used when determining leaders at low-level circumstances like schools and the like. One of the critical missing traits from the study is the natural abilities as evaluated by the people. The models only represent targeted individuals.
