Reasons for Joining the Minority Internship Program
I am participating in the Minority Internship Program for two reasons. Firstly, I would like to gain some work experience before I embark on my post college career. Getting an internship post will give me the chance to work in a professional job for the first time in my life. This will help me understand what it is like to work in a real nine to five job. I will also get a chance to meet new people who can help me build networks that will enable me to find employment in the future. My second reason for applying for the Minority Internship Program is that completing an internship in a recognized firm is one of the course requirements set in the curriculum for International Relations. This internship will make it possible for me to complete my course requirements, graduate and move on to the next stage of my life.
After completing my degree, my plan is to join the military. Joining the military will give me a chance to serve my country and to learn more while doing so. I also hope that during the time that I will spend in the army, I will get the opportunity to travel to other countries and places in the world. Serving in the military will also give me a set of skills, which I feel could be valuable in my life. The specific branch of the military that I plan to join is the army. Joining the army will give me a chance to utilize the knowledge that I picked up when majoring in International Relations. My hope is that the army will assign me to a position that involves intelligence analysis or logistics. I feel that such a position will suit me because of my educational background. Additionally, serving in such a position will allow me to learn and gain more experience in my field of interest while serving my nation at the same time.
Immediately after my service, I intend to complete my Master’s degree in a field related to International Relations. The specific field that I am interested in is Security Studies, because it will blend in with my service in the army as well as my knowledge of International Relations. I am hoping that my Master’s degree, coupled with my experience from the army will make it possible for me to find employment as an intelligence analyst. My experience in the army should help me have a relative understanding of the expertise and work that is required of me as an intelligence analyst.
Through my participation in the Minority Internship Program, I expect to acquire a lot of work experience. This will be helpful in future as I move on to other job and careers. I also expect to gain some knowledge related to the field in which I will be working. Coupled, the knowledge and experience will help make me a valuable worker for any organizations that I work for in the future. Lastly, I hope that through this internship program I will meet new people and create networks that will help me find new employment opportunities in the future. I plan to make the most that I can of this internship opportunity and use this chance to enhance my skills and my knowledge as I look to embark on a successful career.
