The article, Lawsuit: Hotel Staff Gave Room Key to Woman’s Alleged Attacker, by Christina Elmore, is a representation of issues surrounding the legal problems that affect hotel facilities in relation to how they treat customers. In overview, a civil lawsuit that was filed in Charleston County alleged that a member of the staff at Embassy Suites Hotel provided a key to a man who apparently engaged in an act of sexual assault against the client, who was a woman. The complainant, Kayla Denise Snipe, during a press conference, announced the litigation outside the hotel accompanied by Gloria Allred (Elmore para. 2). Based on the lawsuit, the parent organization, as well as the woman’s suspected attacker, are deemed as defendants in the suit. Referring to a statement prepared prior to the conference, the plaintiff stated that the alleged man sexually assaulted her while at the premises of the hotel during an ongoing Christmas party for the organization. The complainant rented a room at the premises in question in order to prepare for the party as well as stay overnight. In addition to this, the woman did not approve or record any other person to gain access or authorization to her own room. However, at the party, she began having trouble walking, disorientation, dizziness, and an increased heart rate (Elmore para. 4). Following this, another supposed co-employee approached the entrance desk and asked for a copy of the room key belonging to the plaintiff. For Snipe, the hotel was responsible for endangering her life by being incapable of securing her safety. Legally, it is up to the hotel to ensure that it offers a secure and safe environment for its clients unless stated otherwise. As such, failure to ensure this breaches the contract between the guest or client and the hotel.
