The authors initiate the discussion by noting that laboratory tests are usually ineffective if the clinicians are unable to access the results in a timely manner. The article notes that a majority of laboratory tests in healthcare settings are slowed down by the overly complex nomenclature (Passiment et al., 2012). Undertaking the right laboratory tests is important towards diagnosis and subsequent treatment of patients. The primary objective of this would be to provide physicians and other professionals with flexible, reliable, intelligent, efficient, and effective tools for ordering and interpretation of results from laboratory tests irrespective of similarities between tests and nomenclature.
