Servant Leadership

Overall, the case is particularly based on the issues faced during scorekeeping in the church’s basketball games. The team tasked with the obligation was initially incapable of recording the correct statistics due to external factors such as distraction during the participation in the respective games. Based on this, it was imperative to develop a strategy that would allow the involved members to record the right statistics in order to avoid further complaints. In this respect, more volunteers were introduced into the program in order to allow for effective scorekeeping. Even though the issue of distraction was still eminent, the incorporation of more affiliates to the recording group would lead to a considerable improvement in the gathering of the respective data. Nonetheless, in order for the concerns to be addressed effectively, servant leadership was the necessary foundation step for the mentioned strategy. Usually, this form of leadership involves power sharing as well as placing the demands and prerequisites of other individuals first (Northouse, 2013). As such, it was important for the leader to put the needs of the team over his for purposes of exhibiting the best possible results. Additionally, servant leadership is not solely delegated to the leader. In this case, it was necessary to incorporate the respective paradigm even among the team members. Interestingly, servant leadership assists in the development of people by encouraging the best possible performance among every one of them (Northouse, 2013). According to the case, the team members were having trouble recording the right scores, which eventually raised complaints from the players. Such complaints would only serve as detriments to the members’ motivation if they persisted. Therefore, adding the number of volunteers to the team was an effective way of improving scorekeeping and ultimately, mitigating risks associated with the collection of the data.
