Should the U.S. Government develop a national technology policy, and influence ‘desirable’ developments?
USA is a first world nation ranked as a global leader in politics and military. It is also amongst the most developed counties in terms of technological advancement and national development. It has undergone dramatic changes within the past decade. The developments comprise of increase of the existing colonies, which were thirteen in the Eastern part of the country to an additional eleven. Another aspect of growth is the independence of the armed forces and local area enforcement that has seen America ranked as a nation with the most secure borders and security systems. The economic growth has also been substantial despite the inflation and global fiscal crisis. This proliferation has influenced the transition of USA from an agricultural to an industrial economic powerhouse. The above-mentioned areas of growth are very important to the nation. However, technological advancement is equally important for the for holistic development. This growth of the nation implies that America is willing to grow not only geographically but also technologically in order to influence desirable developments.
Discussion
Two major additional aspects that contribute greatly to the economy are science and technology. They play a vital role thus the American government should develop the national technology policy. There are many reasons, which will provide evidence illustrating the importance of such an action.
Technological policy includes several elements which when implemented promote the overall growth of the nation. They include
- Development Goals
The goals included in technological policies are usually in synchrony with the economic ones. They are easily adaptable therefore are capable of interacting with the global economic and social conditions which is an advantage to America on the implementation of these policies.
- Industrial Structure
This structure provides an all round concept as it involves technological manufacture and production framework. The policies allow the nation to be well versed on the productivity levels of their manufacturing companies as well as their technological capabilities in meeting the social needs. This analysis is very important because of five reasons. The country is able to determine
- development speed and schedule
- reasonable proportion
- scales
- production technology compositions
- layouts
- Technology Selection
This type of policing allows the government to select the type of technological aspect to develop. The technologies vary therefore providing choices for USA which is an option not offered by other policies such as those on economy and industries. The main aspects to be considered in the selection are technological and economic efficiency.
Comparison between America and other nations thriving on technology policies sheds light on the need for it to develop and implement them. China has experienced exponential growth in the economy and technological evolution because of the strict focus directed towards the policies. There have been excellent economic reforms, which has challenged the economic policies established in China. If America follows suit, it is only a matter of time before it advances in both the technological and fiscal sector.
The abovementioned factors are characteristic to technological policing. They create the necessity why America should develop the national technological policy. Several advantages can be drawn out from the characteristics.
- they focus on the economic and industrial advancement
of the nation
- they are adaptable to the global economy and social aspects thus provides guideline on how the economy should cope with globalization
- offers option to the nation on which technological aspects should be developed yet providing the same prerequisites
