SUBJECT: A Review of Jane Treadway’s Memo
Overall, the memo provided by Jane Treadway addresses all the employees of the respective organization regardless of their situations as parents or non-parents. One of the positive ways in relation to her memo involves the structure she utilizes. Typically, memos tend to be brief documents that are utilized in order to disseminate the right type of information in a more expedient way. In this respect, the author manages to spread the intended information in a convenient manner by establishing a simple structure for the overall memo. Primarily, she averts from the utilization of headings and subheadings in order to avoid lengthening the memo. Another positive attribute regarding Treadway’s memo involves its directness. Accordingly, the author does not delve profoundly into issues of less concern. Instead, the author ensures that the concern at hand is indicated from the onset of the memo as well as its implications for the employees. Lastly, the nature of the document’s survey questions seems particularly effective in the collection of data concerning the opening of a daycare center.
On the other hand, certain areas need improvement in order to ensure that the memo satisfies its primary purpose. For instance, the tone, as well as the style used, is not particularly appropriate to the audience, which mainly comprises the company’s employees. Since the purpose of the memo involves informing the workers of a possible daycare center, then the tone used by the author should be more considerate and less authoritative. Another notable area of improvement involves the wording of the survey questions, specifically those regarding the on-site day care center. The questions are particularly closed-ended and as such, can only provide a narrow view of the employees’ concerns regarding the potential project. Hence, for an issue with rather considerable implications, the questions should be more open-ended in order to encourage more information regarding the respective situation. Conclusively, the author should also improve on supporting her generalizations of an on-site daycare center with convincing facts or details, which can further aid in the data collection process.
