Women and Gender Issues
Question 2
One of the measures that adult males can take to ensure that they do not lose the status of “man” in the society is leadership. From the traditional setting, the male gender has been known to offer direction from the basic units of a family into the complex settings of a community, locality, state, and even national status. Leadership accounts for the decision-making process and accountability of the results achieved consequently. In reference to the difference between men and women, the role of leadership is expected on the former as opposed to the female gender. Therefore, despite the challenges that the man faces on a daily basis, the measure of leadership should be protected at all times. If the woman usurps leadership, the man will be considered a failure. In addition, reference to him will not take into account the status of a man through inequality or provision for his family.
Another measure that adult males can take to ensure that they do not lose the status of “man” in the society is protection. Protection is considered a major role of the man in society apart from that of provision and leadership. Every man is expected to defend his own as well as their territory of provision at all times. It gives significance and added importance to any man if he is able to achieve the above. Consequently, the women and children in similar setting expect protection from the man regardless of any circumstance. Thus, the status of “man” is refined with the ability to achieve it at all times. Failure in availing protection by the man is considered a failure due to the empowerment and dominance attached to the role.
